Shaping previous piece.
Lots of dry and wet sanding. Wore a mask. Cut up differently sized sections from sanding blocks which helped when working around the neck area.
At the moment I'm trying to provide symmetry above anything else, because I want to master technique. I figure I can't choose imperfection until I know how to achieve perfection (i.e. I must understand the mechanics of perfection well enough to deliberately interrupt it).
Quite often I did find I faced a choice .. two unequal silhouettes .. each of which had a distinct character, sometimes it felt frustrating that I could only achieve balance through subtraction, because I felt more emotionally attracted to the side that was fuller.
I think overall the piece now feels refined and has character, but character in the sense that it felt slightly alien to me .. I don't necessarily know it .. but maybe that's not a bad thing.
