Oxides and slip were used to create the surface. Manganese dioxide, tin oxide and nickel oxide with a white commercial slip.

The first layer of oxides (and slip) were applied onto greenware. I then used tin oxide and nickel oxide on the bisque piece.

The nickel oxide ended up creating a lighter greyish brown. The tin oxide provided the bright white vertical stripes on the base.
